Lost Memory Series
This project begins with old photographic plates, degraded to the point of retaining only a faint, recognisable trace of the original image. The passage of time and a lack of care have eroded them, giving rise to a surface with an almost painterly density, as though the image had been reduced to matter to a pure trace.
From these plates, a dialogue emerges between what endures and what has faded. The image is enlarged, displaced, intervened upon. Where a recognisable echo still lingers, a subtle act of concealment is introduced, resignifying the work. The gesture does not retrieve what has been lost but places it at the very centre of the image. The original photograph is no longer shown as it once was, but through the erosion left by time and artistic intervention.
Rather than revealing what is no longer there, these pieces suggest the evocative power of that which we can no longer access. The image appears as an echo that, though incomplete, still has the capacity to move us. As if what we can no longer fully recall were, in fact, what most endures. These pieces symbolise the way in which memories undergo alterations — and even decomposition, within us, generating a kind of matter whose weight takes up a new space in our memory.
