Ginga
Ginga explores the relationship between photography, memory and the transformation of matter. The project begins with old silver gelatin glass plates whose original images have faded or disappeared through deterioration. Their altered surfaces are reinterpreted through cyanotype, evoking galaxies and cosmic landscapes.
Meaning “galaxy” in Japanese, "Ginga" it also literally means “silver river.”
The silver that once captured light on glass becomes a metaphorical link between photographic memory and the cosmic origins of matter. Through this transformation, the disappearance of an image becomes the emergence of another, inviting reflection on time, impermanence and the cyclical nature of matter.
